The MINT Experiment decided to revisit Jennifer’s Song – and it wasn’t just another remix. It was personal. In fact, the idea had been in motion for quite some time. A timeline of one to two years isn’t an unreasonable estimate. Originally composed by Ingela Karlsson during the winter holidays of 2009, the piece – also known internally as Julafton 2009 (the FLP project) – has lived quietly as one of the most emotional and stripped-down tracks in her early catalog. Now, over a decade later, The MINT Experiment is bringing it back in a new form, via Thomas. The T in MINT.
This remix project is more than a sonic reinterpretation. It’s a gesture of deep respect for Ingela, one of the founding creative voices behind the experiment, and the person responsible for many of the melodies that shaped MINT’s early direction. The new version retains the haunting simplicity of the original but adds a layer of rhythmic pulse and atmosphere that reflects the project’s evolution over time.
The idea was initially to rename the track Ingela’s Song, as a tribute to her role as composer and founding member. But due to SoundCloud’s restrictive naming policies for remixes, the decision was made to keep the original title. The remix was created by Thomas, nowadays also known as Rhythm Shifter when remixing DnB tracks – who has long collaborated with Ingela in various musical constellations. And obviously still are. But with older material.
Adding a layer of poignancy to the release is the recent passing of Birgit, Ingela’s mother, in mid-January 2025. While the remix was already in the works, this unexpected loss gave the project new emotional depth. The track now stands not only as a tribute to Ingela’s contributions, but also as a quiet homage to Birgit’s memory.
Jennifer’s Song (Remix) will be featured as part of a series where The MINT Experiment revisits and reimagines some of the foundational pieces that inspired the collective’s identity. This particular remix, however, remains unique – created not just by the current members of the experiment, but with a reverence for the one who helped lay its melodic foundation.
